Questions about VFB

Morning guys, I've been away for a few days in Bristol on Family matters so haven't had any time to look through the cards, so for my first post i thought I'd pick your collective brains.

How do you sort your columns, do you use the pre-packed auto option or have you set your own variables and if so what are they, a screen shot would be nice. I've had the software for 6 weeks now and don't seem to be doing to well with it, i've hit the bar a few times, as i look for longer priced animals to back win and place via Betfair and its been the usual story of coming 4th or 5th.

Any advice you can throw my way would be greatly appreciated as I'd like to get the most out of the software I possibly can.

Regards

Matt

Monday 21st some analyser animals

Have looked through todays cards and nothing stands out but for you with the vfb - here are my analyser horses to note today
2.10 Kelso - g/soft Bradburne rides Rathnaroughy who is looking for another improvement today
2.40 a big run expected from another Bradburne ride Rossini's Dancer this time for his mum !  edit won at 5/1 yippee
3.10 Kelso - some improvement from Pokfulham is expected - place chances for Latin Connection under Gillies
edit -  Pokfulum ran a stinker  but Latin Connection 10/1   had problems that held it for too long and when got clear powered home for a good second largely un noticed run and will be  bet next time --- make the notes guys
3,40 Kelso  Raysrock well in today and Lucinda/Gillies  at top of market is plus
edit fell too early to say what it would have done  does seem a clumsy bugger though
5.10 Bumper Pyjama Game is better than her last run and dobbin horses in bumper here respected edit - drifted but what a good bumper this was went right down to 1.3 in running
Lingfield  4.00 Just Beware is a telling mare this track and well in really - look out for blnks first time Tizzard horse Celtic Ballad who has Clements riding its only a seller on a monday guys
Edit - Just Beware non runner so will play Tizzard horse at 10s good second for the money!
5.30 bumper - big shout for Bown yard who are coming back to some form and ££ Mike Towey 5/1 is a big price for this one - all but got the race and worth watching as he was pushed out by the winner Sertao right before the line  edit - late withdrawn horse - is entered at chepstow on the 24th

 good luck today guys

THREE MORE FOR TODAY 19TH MARCH

Thanks for the posts Mate we will be happy to just lets things ride for the moment there are more and more tests but my lil lass is a real fighter and will let you know.

So apart from the Midlands national have a couple of animals you may want to look at in the vfb and Arr past runnings
2.25 Uttox - first time in a handicap for Tizzards horse GOLDEN CHIEFTAIN who is a very good animal on its day - has a big lump of weight but have it able to run to this mark this ground around the 10/1 in a race full of dodgepots

3.20 Newcastle POLITICAL PADDY likes the track and likes the ground has tried novice chases but any money will be significant was well beaten last 2 but am keeping the faith back to its winning mark and Dsr

3.35 uttox like the return of ZARAFACT   who has won twice off a long layoff  you know the value of Lavelle horses when the money is down and this weight wont stop it IMO  has only a couple of lbs to find on iits best form in the right clas and grade the 9k race it won at Folkstone - COTTAGE ACRE  abs slaughtered them at Newbury   and is feared even with 11lbs to find so am forecasting these two and a win bet on ZARAFACT
Be Lucky
 Bob
AMMENDMENT 12-34
SORRY ABOUT THAT MAYBE A FREUDIAN SLIP - HAVE AMENDED THE POST  COS ITS COTTAGE ACRE NOT MY ORIGINAL POSTING TO TOP ACE (WHATEVER RACE THAT ONE IS IN GOD KNOWS !  ITS ABOUT 20 YEARS OLD

Midlands national 3pm Uttox 19th March 2011

Going is the key to this race and  The going has quickened slightly after a dry night. It's now good to soft, soft in places (from soft, good to soft in places).

This track can come up a bog and to have decent ground does allow the top weights to get home - Synchronised won in heavy ground last year off 143 and has won the welsh grand national off 150 again in soft ground the question is can he do it again on this quicker ground?only 3 horses finished, which makes the result slightly more suspect from a trends points of view.
The race has been kind to novices in the past and only 1 winner has carried 11-05 and that was Synchronised last year hefting 11-05 - poor bugger today has to hump another 7lbs and remember he only just got up by three quarter length to that Dodgpot La Venture last year.

Average age of winner has been  7 8 and 9 yr olds carrying less than 10-09 but prices have been in the main single figures with only the light weighted Himalyan Trail carrying 9-09 for sue Smith in 2008 at 16/1

only one 7 yr old in this years line up and thats Qhlimar has won 3miles  good/soft ground  last run was up with the pace and shot up the hill at sandown of 122 and is off 133 today in a better race. but is in the right age and weight bracket and importantly won its last race - not many in this can boast that stat and 8 of 10 winners did win their last race! Trends say look for a horse who won last time out and there are only 2 of them in today

The other horse that will be keeping my eye on is Cullotys Noble Concorde - the irish have a sparkling record of punted horses in this marathon and Noble Concorde bred from Delami is a stayer who for a 9 yr old actually has an improving profile  is a front runner and its second in soft ground at Punchestown behind Some Target who went well in the 4 miler at cheltenham this week reads well

an 8 yr old that has run distance races - and has no weight on its back  is being touted - La Beau Bai ticks all the right boxes and the bonus of liking Uttoxeter - Its run in the welsh national 2009 in ground way too heavy puts him in with a great shout today off this 10-00 and Grenall allowance just keeps getting me focused - and the minus maybe that the ground is too good?? he pulled up in this race last year 28 days after finishing third at haydock - the same route he has taken this year.VFB highlites the fact he is 4lbs right for the race and in the handicap proper.

 good luck all

F.A.O Bob

Midlands Grand National

Usually this is a difficult race to access, however, Synchronised

My 40/1 winner dedicated to Bob and his family

One only has to look at the results, or more accurately, the number of Irish winners to have a clue how my Cheltenham wemt, as my knowledge on such bwasts is nowhere near as good as say Bobs. However, I did manage to back Hurricane Fly plus a couple of British trained, until the lucky last where my horse bolted home at 40/1 !! Bob knows I do particularily well in the said race, but never at a price such as that. To conclude - I WON

Just a thought on Cheltenham

That was a truly horrible Cheltenham for me can say it was the most expensive for years  you could have studied yourself silly and not clicked - have just seen the replay of the gold cup and its a stand out in terms of excitement and only one youngster had the legs of the wonderful old boys  hats off to Kauto Denman and the winner  and of course to Mr Nichols who really could not believe it any more than I could. Its more a sign of poor younger animals and rising stars are not in evidence on that showing. Well Done Martin  on your fantastic result in the last. My Notebook says (as far as can read back - you have won on this race 5 times in the last 7 years -bloody amazing
I has won it twice in the same period - beating your animal both occasions with your placed  once and fallen once - smile you swine.

Well well well

A few thoughts

Cheltenham seems to be a bookies dream.....Mick Fitz said the other night that he did not understand why people saved up for months to back on the most difficult races of the year! I agree and never back big here......
Triumph HurdleWInner beat Granduet by 15l at Chel in November, but I do have the latter down as having an easy win at Ascot in January when he never came off teh bridle so there may be mileage there. On Balance I have put my dosh on Unaccompanied, I cant see any other Weld runners at Chel, and he runs a flat yard........so they must think a lot of him.....
County Hurdle I wont be backing but like Alaivian would seem to have the form, I do have a note for Get me out of Here who showed early season promise
Albert Bartlett Gagewell Flyer looks like an improver but it must be noted that it didnt perform last time out at Chel......
Gold Cup what a race.......I can't improve on what Bob has already said.......I would love one of the big 3 to win but think we may have a suprise and my money is on Midnight Run

oops forgot this one

££ Oh Crick in the 5.15 will carry my money in the lucky last ( a race that Martin seems to pick up with regularity) ran to this mark last time at Sandown and went very close last year this is his mark no doubt and runs to it this ground - cannot see it being beaten

my selections today outside the box! Gold Cup Friday

1.30 – this is a notorious race for upsets in the past and there is a very tight market again today – thoughts must include Tizzards animal Third Intention who looked classy and must be placed – has improved with each run – speed figures suggest Local hero can run at a big price having already beaten Tizzard horse here and there is a host of improvers including Zakandar  but – pin job  race really

2.05 another really tight handicap and Alarazi for me for a small bet to win this the way it won at sandown can see it collecting the bonus and an attractive 8s it really is a top lil animal who was only btn a short head here on g/soft

2.40 am scared that the Henderson yard isn’t firing and though Bobs Worth has all the aces in Vfb its the yard form that worries so have taken a chance on another sandown winner in Kilcrae Kim An Irish point winner and successful on his first three starts over hurdles at up to 2m6f, he was beaten off this mark over 3m at Cheltenham last time. Dropping back in trip, he travelled well and, after going on two out, found more when challenged after the last. He continues on the way up, and he is likely to take his chance in the Albert Bartlett, although the Coral Cup looked a feasible alternative. The fact has stuck with this race will do for me

3.20 gold Cup – think have said it all in the earlier post my money is on an upset in the race and its wide open – the old brigade have too many question marks and a newcomer will make them all go hope that long Run will repeat his performances round here and the Henderson yard this week does not bode well – Midnight Chase am already on and has its ground – big run from Weird Al cannot be ruled out either and have taken an eachway bet on China Rock who has the best improving Profile  so in running watch recommended
This is a very strange Gold cup guys – Have to say it only comes round once a year and I have the youngsters running for me

4.00 the foxhunters – liked the way that Gentle George ran in this race last year this year has been well beaten By both Sericina (fell here when going well)and Herons well – will be looking for a market move on any of these but heart says the improver will be Gentle George

 Good luck all

Update  Well guys this is a good ground Gold cup -

Thursday going faster than they giving?

Not a great chelt for me so far! You were right about my nap Martin he just did not fire and nothing - one slight mistake and pulled up Henderson yard having a shock horror Cheltenham.
Ground faster than good down the back straight on the chase course - with some rain threatens for tomorrow.

will have some time to study in the morning but its a bit of a catch all and expecting a big price winner in the Gold Cup!  Have Backed my Midnight Chase at long odds ante -  yes its a back to lay but that can happen for a green book in the morning! still have a hankering for this transfer from handicaps
 Bob

Thursday Card Cheltenham - 17th March 11

See you have been burning the midnight oil Martin - good lad that you are
could not get here yesterday but still there to get the bookies beaten hopefully today

1.30 and am fully confident of a big run from Henderson horse Mr Gardener -A runaway winner on his third hurdles start in March 2009, was then not seen again until making all to win a 2m4f novice chase at Huntingdon this January where he jumped like a stag.  Coming out only 22 days Sandown 050211 looked a house of a horse and was impressive against Captain Chris and Medermit   and stepping up in grade  he was always towards the front, if tending to jump slightly right. He was still right there until stumbling on landing at the penultimate fence, from which point he weakened. That was a creditable effort just over three weeks after his reappearance, and he looks sure to win good races if keeping sound. Henderson said he wanted to target this race with him in any case but thought he would need another run after Sandown which he hasn't had. There was no bounce factor at Sandown and  having a 40 dsr has a major chance - he does lead and fitness on his side under Barry  Geragthy this is his going he will stay. His run put him 5lbs behind Captain Chris who won so well on Tuesday and a clear round will see him home today. The Vfb gives him the same mark as the favourite Wishful Thinking who won a  grade 3 handicap here last time wearing a first time tongue tie which he wears again today both horses are highly progressive  but Mr Gardener has the edge in my book on the drying ground.

2.05 and my selection here is the irish Rivage D'or who i thought so impressive under this in form jockey at Naas last time  ideal stats for this one in a race thats been targetted  he led home a Dessie Hughes one-two. He travelled well throughout under his 5lbs claimer and forged to the front at the last and stuck to his task well. Cut to 14-1 for the Cheltenham race with Stan James, his trainer described the first two home as good staying horses but this one had a turn of speed as well

2.40 cannot have a great deal of confidence in this race but have a sneaky bet on Jacobs booting home a winner today and Gavain my well be short of top class but Williams horses have only just got over a setback  his running against Riverside Theatre at Ascot showed a return to form and hes better this way round - this is not a great Ryanair in my book  and Alberta Run last years winner was also second in the Ascot race the previous run

3.20 and a race to savour - is Big Bucks vulnerable ? is it a two horse Race with Grands Cru ? on the book it seems to be and they both have plenty of reasons for backing them - 6 and 7yr old have dominated the last 10 year stats previous course win seems an absolute must and am turning my attention to an each way shot in Henderson's  Zaynar he is a very brave animal and always considered to be classy enough to win a champion race he has never run this far but another year on its back and Delami has bred some stayer he is the betfair place market bet for me and an in running bet.

4.00 a good handicap but a puzzle - would say take a look at Edgbrier this has been his target for some time and should give a good account just 4lb higher than when game course winner in October.for a big run in a race that doe throw up some massive priced winners he ran such a good race at sandown last time over an inadequate 2miles staying on really well from the last that i have to have this one win and place

best of luck on your selections - give me a comment on mine ? cheers

 Bob

Cheltenham - Wednesday (Ladies Day)

Hi all

I suffered from placeitis (Hurricane Fly apart) and todays racing is much more difficult. Bearing that in mind, I waded through the form all night and have come up with the following:

1.30 - the 4m Amateur Riders Hcap Chase - There are 2 in this that intesrest me Chicago Grey who acts on any ground, and PearlySteps who will go well but needs some rain.

2.05 Neptune Novices - Again, tyhere are 2 that caught my eye Oscars Well who needs some rain, and Minella Class who has performed well and consistently and gets the nod

2.40 Royal Sun Alliance - cracking 3 mile Chase - my bet of the day runs in this and it's Time for Rupert who if running anywhere near form will take all the beating as I believe this is a future Gold Cup winner.

and machine gun style tipping:

3.20 Master Minded
4.00 Ballyhaunis
4.40 Tenor Nirvanais
5.15 Knight Pass - good bet!!

Tuesday, 15 March 2011

the rest of Cheltenahm

I'll just give you these machine-gun style:

3.20 Hurricane Fly
4.00 Garde Champetre
4.40 No Bet
5.15 Tullamore Dew

Hi Guys - cheltenham yippee Tuesday thoughts 15th March

The blog is well over due for a posting and I am in fighting fit mood to make some cash for the day - things are a bit more controlled and the family feeling a lil more confident and relaxed - thank you for all the well wishes we have received - things are not resolved yet but confidence is rising.
So racing that's what your here for - Why Is Cue Card such a big price ?- on the form book he cannot be beaten and will take some  more of the bookies cash today - plenty of reasons to have a look and bet with Paddy Power who will refund any other animal bets if when Cue Card wins so its a no lose situation with your thinking caps on - a last-time-out winner has been the way to go as 12 of the last 14 winners had won on the previous start. poor old Dougie Costello will miss his ride on Recession Proof who to my mind is the complete animal its win in the Tote Gold trophy was just sublime. -  Money Back with a win on Cue card - thats fruit and Nuts to me
2.05 the Arkle wooooweee given that just one of the last 19 winners started at any bigger than 11/1, the Arkle hasn’t been a good race for favourites, far from it in fact, as just two have won during that period.  Realt Duhb won the Irish Arkle this year and is my main fancy at the moment  but have a hankering for Captain Chris  who takes on Medermit again and today think he can beat him - silly mistakes cost him at Sandown last time when they met. Medrmit has a few quirks and will need some real handling - the way the Captain got after him up the Sandown hill makes me think he can turn it around on the run in today. the jokers in the pack must be the top rated hurdler Rock Noir under McCoy and the blinkerd first time Pipe horse Dan Breene who can really jump a fence both a worthy of a place bet
2.40 is not a betting race for me but have some interest in Caroles legacy as an each way prospect as is Rive De Sivola - but this race is  really set up for a gamble in my opinion  and more will be known nerer the off
3.20 what Can I say - am mad?  but am  laying Hurricane Fly - breeding does not have good omens for this animal its sire Montjeu has a horrible no wins stat for cheltenham - my money is all for Pedlers Cross who is all the blues for me today will win in my opinion and cannot be opposed.

You can play the cross country at 4.00 but all it is is a fun race  Poker De Sivola for a place bet is all that I can untangle - there just is no angle that will make me confdent on any of these
which leads me to my longshot fancy in the 4.40 - Banjaxed Girl for twiston bugger these are the notes from last year and her recent running confirms to me the target has always been this race "a former winning pointer she would have to take a high rank in this division if sent chasing next season, but it wouldn´t be that surprising to see her aimed at the David Nicholson Hurdle back here at the Festival next year, as the best of her is possibly still to be seen."

!!!! NOTE FROM BENS BLOG Only ONE failed to complete the course on their chase debut when your look at the Arkle later

Good luck all enjoy the day

 Bob

The races

1.30 Cheltenham - Supreme Novices ... Cue Card if running to form should take this, which gives us an excellent opportunity to back another in the race if we can take advantage of the money back guarantee if Cue Card wins. I like Zaidpour available at around 14s. Shown winning form only on the soft but has a good chance

2.05 Cheltenham - Arkle Trophy. A great renewal with a few holding good claims. Medermit is all the rage, but I like the form of Finians Rainbow who goes in this nice ground.

2.40 Cheltenham - Stewart Family Spinal Hcap Chase - I like the chances of Great Endeavour who is available at around 7's

THE Festival !

Hi all,

I would like to hear from Bob, just to know all is okay. The Cheltenham festival commences today - it's the highlight of my gambling, and there look to be some outstanding bets today. I'll select one from each race later - just as Bob and I usually do :)

Robert

Hi all

It's been an age since Bob contributed to his own blog and I can only speculate that illness in the family is the reason. If this is so, I would like to wish Bob and his family all the best and hope to read his contributions really soon and that whtever is causing him strife will disipate soon.

Nice back/Lay

I just had a lovely Back to Lay bet on Ippi Tomba 2.10 Lingfield ... backed at 140 and layed in running at ......27 - hedged for a tidy sum whoever won! I feel as if I am back lol
