FOLKSTONE 5.20 The Calling Curlew

I always make a point of checking out Candy runners at this track and he has a very live chance in the 5.20 with Dane O'Neill on board The Calling Curlew over this 1m4f - ground is forecast g/frm at the moment with showers forecast in the afternoon. This horse is very interesting and my Notebook is as follows

Sailsbury 260611 The Calling Curlew cost only 3,200gns and has already been gelded, but he showed ability.

brighton 260811 soft didn´t look particularly well treated on his handicap debut and, while he saw this longer trip out well enough, it is debatable whether he has improved on the pick of his maiden runs. Still, like the winner, he has got the potential to build on this. was ridden by Fergus Sweeney today and saw out the distance really well finishing just 2nd and could well have been the other way round - wait for Dane now he has shown can do this distance - will come back here unless Candy sees an opportunity elsewhere.

Upped to 1m4f  (he could have run yesterday at Brighton!)does look gettable for this gelding and the ground should not be a worry breeding is indicating he is a miler but the run at Brighton over 1m3f on soft ground he was not stopping.  Has some good blood lines to the Whistling Teal who was a confirmed 1m4f horse any ground.
Candy does not come all the way to Folkstone just for the road trip nor does he stay around for the last race when he could be home but will be here today and its the last race the hint should be taken. Its on the case and the early 7/1 should be taken

Didn't manage to watch the race as had to collect the missus from work.

She has been suitably admonished.

Really fancied two of the Hannon/Hughes combinations today and as I'm out of pocket I'm sure you can guess which two. Just typical!

My dad said that Richard Hughes writes a column in the RP and that last week had advised Silenzio out for today. Was 2.5 on betfair which I believe is far too skinny for you to play but I would have been on if he told me in time.

Hopefully better luck for all tomorrow.

HI Steve
if jockeys had brains they would be dangerous but Hughes is a very astute guy and his column is worthy of a read but combine that with a visit to the Hannon site which is very honest and has given me so brilliant winners
