Wednesday 22 Feb 12

Some half decent races today but will be away so have had a scan through and see two very interesting animals that will leave a bet for -
First up  (just to confuse) in  the 2.05 at Ludlow - My top rider to follow Wayne Hutchinson is on the big outsider  Flying Phoenix   (currently 44/1)  its his only ride today.  before you dismiss it take a good look at the video of its run round here beaten 4.5l by Memorabilia into a really strong head wind and good to soft ground it was staying on best at the end of the race - he then came out in total mud bath at Chepstow and just cannot handle that ground --- but you can easily dismiss that effort. In a half decent race today and I think it will be punted so its a BTl for me off this feather weight and this Jockey. It needs this good ground gauged on its wins on the flat and has ideal conditions and top jock------ In the same race Monte Cavello is currently 2nd favourite - really nice lil animal who chased home the odds on favourite last time - will do as a saver bet at the current 4s
Result --- brilliant for the each way punt!  and a very nice lil earner
Red Inca 9/2
Monte Cavallo 15/8F
Flying Phoenix 33/1
This second division of the maiden hurdle was run at a fast pace courtesy of the well-backed Monte Cavallo.

Richard Johnson set a strong pace aboard the 7yo, stacked his rivals up down the back straight and kicked rounding the home turn, but just found one too good again. He has a Supreme Novice entry so is evidently well regarded and will be winning races for sure as he was a clear second-best.

RED INCA profited from being closer to the pace than had previously been the case and this sharptrack and decent ground suited. He won with something in hand and will now get a handicap mark, with a tilt at Cheltenham, possibly in the Fred Winter, not out of the question.

Flying Phoenix got bogged down last time on bad ground but showed up well on this occasion, just outclassed by her rivals. A small handicap looks well within her compass.

Dream Performance belied her odds with a big run. She stayed on past beaten rivals down the straight and was her first piece of worthwhile form, soit's hoped she can build on it.

The other that attracts my attention run in the 5.20 Mystic Appeal who really did have an eye catching appearance at Hereford 2m6f on soft ground - looks like a horse that can be dropped in anywhere in a race and rails like a greyhound right handed - has a really fine staying pedigree and stepped up from 2m6f to 3miles on good ground is lip smacking bet for me - this market hasn't settled down  yet  but can be backed at 7/1  and 8.6 betfair

1 Low Gales 33/1
Danandy 9/4F
Knockalongi 11/4

Result out of the money on this one but jumped and railed as expected - will win when gets better ground - This maiden hurdle was an endurance test, run under descending gloom. There were 10 in with a shout rounding the home bend.

LOW GALES sprang a surprise. A winning pointer, the 6yo was always handy and responded well coming into the straight. He drifted towards the far rail after two out but battled gamely to prevail. This was a step up from recent efforts, but being down in grade and having a tongue-tie fitted worked the oracle.

Bumper winner Danandy was just worn down in the closing stages. He jumped fluently and ran on right to the line. Stamina is clearly his forte (won a 3m Irish point), and he should have no trouble landing a staying hurdle race.

The pair pulled clear of Knockalongi, who made a shuddering mistake at the eighth but to his credit rallied once headed, and wasn´t beaten far considering the error. He deserves to get his head in front.

Mystic Appeal and Handsome Harry showed enough ability to suggest a win isn´t far away, whilst Ugo may benefit from a drop in trip.

 have a great days punting
