2.45 Newcastle - 3mile chase soft ground

Going: Soft, Good to Soft in places  Weather: 0.5mm overnight. Overcast with sunny spells expected today. Cool, between 5-6c and turning breezy later.
This is a decent race and the horse not entered but holds the key is lockstown  and the animals that have run against him who are entered today.
Eyre Square got home in front of him in the kelso national over 4miles last time - this animal loves a battle and is still well in on its mark better ground suits though won its last on soft)
Morgan B  has beaten Lockstown over 3miles at Hexham (handles soft and deeper)
Extalar was beaten  6l by Lockstown over 3m2f (handles soft)
Alanard went off joint fav with Lockstown but was brought down in the race.(wins on better ground)

Newcastle fences are not stiff and the run in is not as kelso but it is a stiff galloping track so with today's ground you really do need a horse that can act on it.

Morgan B is now 12 years old finishing behind Lockstown and Extalar when they met and the years do seem to be anchoring him.

Of the three my eye is taken by Extalar who will prefer these easier fences (has won over the stiffer fences at haydock) today and is off his winning mark. Was way too far up in class last time at Cheltenham against the likes of Mon Mome in a class 2 was still well in contention (till they showed their class against him) back down to this class 3 is my selection  Currently 14.5 betfair

I like the look of the McCain animal in this oner Bob, im expecting dramatic improvement from his comeback run and 7/1 is a worthy e/w price.

Hi mate thanks for that - I like your choice Fabalu is a decent animal and if the bounce factor is discounted looks a player - I am not sure how he handles a big field as his wins are in small fields when he makes all - the stable is firing but he has enough weight for me more of a BTl as he will trade short - good luck

Had just a very short look at the race and Montoyas Son 25/1 came to my mind as is by Flemsfirth, looks a stayer from 2nd LTo on video finish and this was over 2m3f galloping Donc against 138 and 131 next time out rated, has also uphill 2-3-6 very nice and Renwick back on Board off a fair mark. It was just abrief look at the race though.

good race at that guys - Extalar was jumping so smooth at the back thought it was going well enough and said so to myself as it capsized at the 6th! so all on the old Boy Morgan Be who did me proud to get home today - really ground it out - next stop the Eider for the ole boy? it was a tuff enuf race for him today
Lockstown was the key and is the bench mark still for these marathons this term

I was very taken by Categorical in that race, as they went a real gallop early and also 3/4 on and travelled so sweetly and lost Im sure 10 lenghts trough a mistake and two times blocked through horses and the faller of Allanard. This perfromance under this weight I think will have all the chances next time out, when given again a fast pace with stiff uphill track and testing.

The Reveley's had the two in it and the claimer on Categorical was able to delay this one - its a slow ole beast anyway but useful and this makes it a very good proposition for further than this - they came back to him rather than he picked up but is a confirmed stayer who can be relied on for further, slow jumper who has not fallen ever (pu only twice) they will win on him off this sort of mark but is in my list for extreme distances this year

Agree that they came back on him, except one horse I slightly remember, in this case sectional timing would be interesting for the meeting to see some partial details,
I had visual the feeling they went a steady moderate pace not slow not fast until 1/2 out and then increased pretty strong peaking 3/4 and then the performance would rated highly, maybe im gonna time this meeting today. I just saw it placed 2nd in Aintree beating Great Endeavour and Hey Big Spender and after this performance there and today must be some chance soon to win in Class on the right circumstances, because I think today lost at least 10 lenghts Inrunning trough circumstances and still had two phases late when it went strongly into gear, even when animals weakened, Im not quite sure if this race was from class a real class 3 race, but visually I think its a good form.
