Anyone who has stumbled on this blog by accident and doesn't know me; let me introduce myself. Will the real Slim Shady please stand up, please stand up. You can't see but I'm still sitting as I'm currently carrying a bit of over-weight. My name is, my name is HMFC1965 (don't ask!), AKA Steven Ferguson. Some of you, who are on this blog by desire, may know me as The Capped Crusader/Masked Avenger from the Timeform Radio page on Facebook. I know Bob told me to stop singing in my posts but I can't HELP it!
I'm now in my mid-forties and have been interested in horse racing since the early 1970's; my first ever bet was in the 1973 Grand National at the tender age of 7 & no I didn't back Red Rum. Spanish Steps all the way for me, on the nose, no messing about with e/w when lumping all my 10 new pence (yes 10p) pocket money on. As I do today with horses I like, I followed this horse over a cliff in the Grand National, never to win any money on it, even though it did get placed once or twice, during Red Rum's heyday. Well how was I to know Red Rum was going to be that bloody good, I was only 7. Still have fond memories of Spanish Steps.
As well as Horse Racing, I also like to bet on Football, Formula 1, Darts, Tennis & Golf; in that particular order. If I obtain Bob's permission, I will share some of my strategies for successful punting on these mediums. Bob & I share another common interest in that we both like lawn bowling, though in Bob's case this is mostly played on a carpet (Indoor Bowls as seen on TV). If Scotland ever decide to take their team out to the Commonwealth Games then they would be serious contenders for some medals in the Bowls. Any Sport that involves socialising and lots of drink, we Scots seem to excel in and Bowls is one of them. Come to think of it, it's probably the only sport we do well in at present. Oh and cycling, that's because if we are too drunk to drive we just jump on the bike. You can't loose your driving licence for being drunk and in possession of a push bike, just ask Chris Hoy how he became so good at cycling. I digress, get some cash on The Elder Statesman that is Willie Wood for a medal in the Singles (Mens Bowling) in the aforementioned C G in India.
Back to horse racing, I prefer to back as opposed to laying horses but if things are not going to plan, I can revert to Plan L which is Lay the whole damn field. This saves any amount of studying form and can be a lazy way to make some cash. When I say lazy, I don't mean easy as there is some skill involved. In my next post, if Bob allows me another one, I will explain how I lay the field. I sound like a bit of a Lothario there. In the meantime
Happy Punting

Welcome HMF was it C? Lol Sorry. It seems you like a punt (which is good). I have often layed the field - usually in those massive sprint handicaps.
Hi Steve - great posting - just knew it would be a great read - YES I would love the word on laying the field - in detail would be good as I have in the past asked for that Reprobate Martin to give a Laying for Dummies guide - and he's just to lazy and old to do it - there are plenty of newbies who need a fresh less complicated approach than Betfair put up.
Feel free to put up your thoughts- and the odd song or two
Cheers

Hi Stevie, Great to see you on here.
Although I lay I do sometimes do 'lay the field'
Can you let us know what odds to lay at please...
I do 1.8 to lay but would be interested to know if you have found anything else more successful.
thanks TGLL
The reprobate here (so Bob thinks) - I lay the field to 1.8 too LLTL
Yes I would be very interested to know about laying the field - well I knowe how to do it - but which races in particular are the best for this? As a layer I can see how it can work but not sure which type of races are the best ones?
Hi Guys not been on Bob's site for ages. Just noticed all these nice comments. I have stopped using Betfair as a betting medium after loosing a Grand on two football bets where I thought I had found a good arbitrage. I now solely use Bet365 as there in play markets are good and you can watch all the races live. So for all the layers still out there Martin, Carole & Marianne, I would recommend big sprint Handicaps and also Marathon distance NH Chases as lots can happen in one of these races. I would also recommend 1.6 or 1.5 for bigger profits when you get two or more matched. The chances of getting matched are slightly reduced but the profits from 1.8 is not enough to cover all the bets when you don't get matched. I have even gone as low as 1.1 and got a couple matched. This is obviously a very cheap lay but wont produce long term profits if used constantly. I only use it if I feel there is a good chance of a photo finish. i.e. 2 or three horses in the race closely handicapped and all with a chance of winning. Have Fun. Any questions drop me a pm on facebook,
Cheers
