A little insight into Sligo racecourse which might enhance the chances of ye having a bet on a horse there.
Its only 25 miles away from me, its a very accessible track located right in the city and is a very good day out. Its a right handed track of 1,600 metres and there is a steady climb to the finish 4 furlongs out so i feel it pays to stick with a strong finishing horse rather than a front runner as the climb really does catch an awful lot of horses out. Its a gold-mine for backers and layers in running, horses leading 4 furlongs out that trade short are nearly always worth laying and horses travelling well but near the back of the pack are sometimes worth backing at very big prices.
The first racing that ever set foot in Sligo was in Rosses Point in 1781, a long time ago!!! I will post my selections for each race at Sligo today, i usually do well at Irish tracks , i wont have time to put up reasoning with each selection but i have studied hard and hope to have a profutable day there.

thanks for the write up on the track invaluable info -- have always had this track as a flat run in without any sort of climb - will add to my notes--- Yachvilli seems your strong fancy in the 5.45 this horse ran a decent race over 2m1f at Ballinrobe (looks a balinrobe track animal) from the back obv to get it home over the 2m6f that day (ballinrobe has a downhill finish (is that right?) ran to this mark and over 2miles 1 flng today on heavy ground - it obv should stay - but will the ground be against it with the climb you indicate?
I really do like the chances of Rumreelic off this mark distance and ground with a feather weight the track it came second on heavy ground over hdles sits very nicely on the track impedance you give for this race - front runner and like this 5lbs claimer to front run
Bob
sorry to confuse (i do that well) 6th line should have read "ran a decent race over 2m6f ballinrobe" not 2m1f -which of course is today's distance
apologies
Bob
Hey Bob, i find the booking of Ruby Walsh very significant here. Your right Ballinrobe is a downhill finish but Sligo is a sharp track and it is very suited to sharp tracks.Ruby's first time riding it which i feel is very significant
love to have a head to head and this will add to the race for me - non withstanding -- if mines not in front will be cheering yours (unless am laying second that is!)
BY THE HOUR held on to win this ordinary handicap chase. The lightly-raced filly was a little keen early, but never far off the pace. She showed a good spirit when challenged up the straight and it would be no surprise if she improved enough to win again. She can hardly go up too much for winning this.
Plenty of money came for the lowly-rated Rumreelic, who would probably have preferred making the running. As it was, she was always up there and ran another solid race. She has not too many miles on the clock.
Peak Raider could have won. Having looked well-treated on his hurdles form, he lacked a recent run, but moved into an ominous position turning in. He looks a surefire winner in this grade.
Rakamasi attracted support as well and ran a solid race. He reportedly needs to be front rank and resents being held up. He is pretty exposed, but could be better for the run and raced with a fair degree of enthusiasm.
Lock Mor Lad found very little after travelling well and it is hard to know what to expect from him next time.
Willies Girl blundered her chance away, while Yachvili never got into it. Olifan D´Oudairies jumped big up front and went out like a light when finally headed.
still we have to have these head to heads adrian -- love em -either of us or anyone on the blog want to nominate a race for thursday?
