kerry national wed 15th Listowel 4.35

The Guinness Kerry National Handicap Chase takes place on Wednesday 15th September and is the highlight of the 7-day Listowel Festival, which begins on Sunday. It is a 3 mile Grade A handicap chase that can throw up clues for the Aintree Grand National later in the season.
This morning the ground is forecast as Good to yielding - will go with that over this distance
Over night there are 21 runners ( three reserves)  with the top weight carried by MossBank aged 10 carrying  11-10
Below we take a look at the trends for the past 10 years:

Not a whole lot to choose between the horses aged 6 to 9 who have landed the last 10 runnings.
No horse aged 10 or over has won the race in the last 10 years from 26 runners (15.7% of total runners). Dont take this to heart if you fancy a 10 yr old - last year the placed horses Church Island (33/1) led all the way to run in and Royal County Star 11/1 were both Ten carrying 11-02 and 11-03.

Weight (Win-Place-Runners)
Horses carrying 11-7 or more: 2-2-14
Horses carrying 11-0 to 11-6: 2-4-23
Horses carrying 10-7 to 10-13: 2-6-40
Horses carrying 10-6 or less: 4-16-89
Horses carrying 11-0+ have a better record, proportional to the number of their runners, 4 wins from 37 runners, which account for only 22.3% of total runners.

Last year Northern Alliance 4/1Fav  8 yr old carrying 11-02 ridden by Mccoy had run in a hdle race previous run - form before winning this race was lamentable
