To me the best is a class animal, class animal is to me one that races close to the pace or is capable of and then wins easily because it has strong finish. And finding good horses is just possible with videoanalysis and making notes or analysing a race and watch videos. Because then you see how good they are really compared to each other. To determine the Class of a horse you have to look how they run and then determine if the pace suits and so on. Dataform numbers are of aid, but a Videoanlysis you see much more.
Class IS a major factpr mate. bit if the horse(s) in question don't go o n the ground, or last the distance, will it still win. And also, how do you classify "class" is the top rated VFB handicapped horse the CLASSIEST or is that figure a red herring? Example: I rated Denman higher than Kauto Star - would that make Denman the classiest horse in the King George at Kdempton
First i look at race conditions, previous winners etc, then i look at todays conditions then i look at horses suited by conditions and go through there form, make a shortlist and watch the market for clues then finally strike a bet.
Most of the points made are sound and we seem to agree -- Set your Library for today to top Prize money - Fakenham has a race worth £5g and thats the best on offer with animals that have no consistent form over fences going round the tightest track on offer -- will they be running to Class?
Just FYI I look at the ground, followed by the distance - delete any runners that wont act on both and go from there ... previous results are useful too (i.e trends)... class is permanent but a horse needs optimum conditions and not have a headache to run to its best form.........
