Denman - the hat-trick hero??

Dual winner Denman heads 20 horses standing their ground in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury on Saturday at the five-day stage.

Paul Barber's 10-year-old, trained by Paul Nicholls, carried top weight of 11st 12lb to victory in 2007 and 2009 and is again burdened with that lofty burden as he attempts to become the first horse to win this prestigious handicap chase for a third time.

Only six other horses are in the handicap proper and they include his stablemates Neptune Collonges (10st 8lb) and Taranis (10st 4lb). Currently 4/1 ante post favourite, this does not represent a value bet, however, it reflects the fact he has won this twice before and laying is out of the question.

The Queens, Barber Shop (69/1) (who doesn't stay the Gold Cup distance) is better over this 3 miles and could be worth a small bet. The Tother One (47/1) (another Nicholls runner) ran a cracking 2nd in the Charlie Hall and if he jumps well will run a big one. - prices are Betfair btw

I feel Denman has a great chance of the hatrick as i feel its not the strongest field as much as i am a fan of AP i glad Sam is back on board the only problem could be the ground on the day there is a few cold nights forcast he is around the 4-1 mark i think he could go off as short as 5-2 on the day COME ON THE TANK!!!

Go Chris GO !!! Lay at your peril young Bob!!! It might interest you that I have an outstanding ante post bet on another in the race - Carruthers, but this is merely a trade (I hope).

I have to say your both very keen on a horse that has to do it all - you think its Arkle?
will put up the trends but here for now
In 50 running’s of this race –
8 winners (10-00 DEAD)
10 winners(10-5 T0 10-9)
6 winners (10-9 TO 11-00)
13 winners (11-00 TO 11-05)
7 winners(11-08 TO 12-00)
4 (CARRIED 12-00 +)

AGE (6 yr olds(10)
7 yr olds(19)
8 yr olds(9)
9 yr olds(9)
10yr olds(2)
11yr olds(1)
good luck -(I actually would love it to win but just cannot see it)

Of course it's not another Arkle, but, it's running against far inferior horses, and on his day, Denman can beat anything as proved in the 2 Hennesseys and his Gold Cup.

I agree martin i feel its quite a poor field apart from Weird al,Burton point, and Madison Du Berlais i think the rest of the field has little to no chance of getting close to Denman i have had a large e/w bet on Denman as i can not see it being out of the frame and has a great chance of the win COME ON THE TANK!!!

I like your confidence guys - will be very happy for you both to cross the road to tell me what I ever thought of laying the beast.
confidence is high - why do you think Sam Thomas has retained the ride? why has Nichols declared 4 runners? what animals do you both consider will give him a race? The place market Betfair will be a better betting Medium you must have some ideas that we can work on outside of your Conviction - I think he will go off as big as 4s and that makes him a fantastic BTL
