3.45 York 5th Sept

this is all that remains of my trends a collection of the facts now up in the ether

age  3 yr old  4 wins 4 yr old  3 wins 1 win from 6yr old
7 winners were male  1 female
drawn in the middle of the track in the main
only 1 winning fav and 1 jnt fav
one priced 25/1 one priced 16/1 the rest varied around the 7/1 mark

Previous runs only 1 winner had won its last race and only one other placed

most winners had decent form previous to this 3 yr olds (2)(4)(2)(1) 4 yr olds(4)(4)(2)  -- 6yr old (8)

The horse with the best profile is Piazza San Peitro who has 4 wins to its credit loves g/frm ground and came third last time its weight is right also at 8-09 and though the trainer has never had a runner here he has booked Ryan Moore for the ride

the best priced longshot and joker in the pack is the soft ground animal Lowdown 3 yr old Mark Johnston horse who has won at a fast time running a couple of pounds better than this mark 6f g/frm Ripon - was heavy gamble that day and any similar punting will interest me mightily

Post Race have added as a comment ----sorry about the lack of in depth here - especially as the winner was my VFB top rated and should have had more time spent on it

Just goes to show - A useful and competitive affair. As so often in sprint races on this course it paid to race fairly handily.

HITCHENS is fresher than most sprint handicappers at this time of year and built on an encouraging effort in the Great St Wilfrid and was always travelling like the winner, though the runner-up made him pull out all the stops. The penalty he picks up for this should ensure he gets in the Ayr Gold Cup.

Secret Witness continues in a rich vein of form and deserves to go one better beforelong, though he´ll edge up a little further in the weights for this. Misplaced Fortune is similar to the runner-up in that she is a most consistent sprinter but has gone up steadily in the ratings as a result. It could be that she´ll continue to find the odd one too good.

Joseph Henry bounced back to the form he showed at Goodwood, sticking on having been in the firing line throughout.

This was a bit more like it from Tombi, who is well treated if able to recapture the pick of his form.

Piazza San Pietro has enjoyed a cracking time this summer but this is a sign that the handicapper may have finally caught up with him.
