Update Saturday morning - going good and f/cast to stay that way - the front runners will force the pace and the end of the race will be a Lay the field option as by the last fence the field are quite tightly packed with low prices in running for the lay you should match at least three runners.
last year was not as competitive as this year that's for sure and the front runners cut each others throats. Oli at 12 has it all to do but will streak off into the lead - seems to always hit one hard and knocks him back - clear round not expected.
am happy to ignore the 7 yr olds and though drifting Deep Purple looks the solid bet on the trends with a big plus for Barbers Shop who holds all the key trends - Henderson horse at 8 yr old runner in the gold cup and a staying family is my second rated -
Nacarat though attracting money is a complete Right handed track animal and cannot be backed with Confidence by me he also likes to force the pace and prone to errors this way round
Joker in the pack has to be Thats Rhythm - outclassed for sure but at 10 cannot be ignored for the place market is a dour stayer who on its day jumps for fun - distance holds no terrors and will go big big big in running from its already massive price - sulks and its a couple of quid down the drain - up for winning - big payout place market!
good luck to all

Updated Sunday morning
well done the backers of Nacarat --!
an up-to-scratch renewal of the season´s first big chase. The pace was brisk and the time was nearly two seconds inside the standard.
NACARAT conceded the early lead to fellow front-runner Ollie Magern before easing back to the front at the entrance to the home straight. He walked through the third-last but kept galloping to score in decisive style. Reportedly treated for a shoulder problem during the summer, he was clearly fit enough here but his trainer had left a bit to work on, so there could be more to come from him. He will be targeted at the King George again, a race in which he faded into fourth behind Kauto Star last season, and the return to a right-handed track where he goes so well will suit him. Another bold run looks assured, but he cannot keep affording the blunders.
The Tother One rather ran in snatches and his jumping lacked a bit of fluency, but he was staying on stoutly at the end. This was a pleasing reappearance and a stiffer test of stamina will suit him, but he remains a difficult horse to catch right. The option is there to try him in blinkers again.
Last year´s winner Deep Purple faced a stiff task attempting to concede a 10lb penalty to the likes of the first two. After losing his pitch he was running on again late, and this was a brave performance from a horse who broke blood vessels on a couple of occasions last season. He will bid for a repeat win in the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon and the Betfair Ascot Chase looks an obvious target in the new year.
The Charlie Hall wouldn´t be the same without Ollie Magern, the winner in 2005 and 2007. Now well into the veteran stage of his career, he ran another enthusiastic race from the front and although he could not go with Nacarat up the straight, he only weakened out of second spot late on. He goes well fresh and it is asking a lot for him to build on this.
That´s Rhythm´s Bangor win in August was smart form and he was worth a crack at this sort of company. He was not quite up to the task and was never seen with a realistic chance, but did come home well from the rear.finishing fourth in such a field is no disgrace and more will come from him.
So in running ? well I think the run from Nacarat was up to the standard of past winners and back right handed will take a lot of beating in top chases Right Handed -- as was Deep Purple who was carrying the penalty to Nacarat and shows him to be a stayer who will get his ground over further and a force to be reckoned with in nationals on flat left handed tracks - same applies to Thats Rhythm in lower grade
